Oil Painting Portrait Progression :: Final Passage of Time

Art © Lalla Porter. All rights reserved.

When I paint from photographs, my goal is emotion instead of a likeness. I found it interesting to look back at my original drawing to see how this painting evolved, and I thought you might enjoy seeing the progression too.

A friend of mine allowed me to use one of his images from a trip to China several years ago. He took photographs ahead of the demolition of old neighborhoods for new construction. When I looked at the man in the photo, I wanted to convey the complexity of feelings that come when we reach the end of an era in our lives.

This painting available for purchase  here

My thanks to Zoriah for the use of his photograph.
